Marriage and family therapy is a form of psychotherapy that addresses the behaviors of all family members, how these behaviors affect each person in the unit individually, and how the behaviors impact the unit as a whole. Marriage and family therapy has been practiced since the 1930s and can take many forms. For couples, we primarily focus on Drs. John and Julie Gottman’s method, but also use components of Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Couple Therapy, and Ellen Wachtel’s strength-based approach. This integrative counseling process is empathetic, person-centered, and mindfulness-based, focusing on emotional expression and regulation, both in relationship and as an individual.
Our approach to individual counseling is collaborative, integrative, and client-centered. This means you are in the driver’s seat and our therapists are committed to providing you the space to explore your best path to healing. We believe you are the expert in your own lived experiences and, as such, you intuitively know what you need to heal and move forward in your life. We will offer components from many modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral, Rational Emotive, Solution-Focused, Systemic, Narrative, Mindfulness-Based, and Experiential Therapies, but you will ultimately decide what works best for you. Often, clients will utilize a combination of several modalities, depending on where they are in their journey.
